TİKA TİKA visits UIN Sunan kalijaga : Establishes Indonesia's Second Turkish Corner at UIN Sunan Kalijaga After Istiqlal Mosque

Yogyakarta, 21 July 2026 – Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta further strengthened its international engagement by welcoming a delegation from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the Republic of Türkiye's official international development cooperation agency. The visit aimed to review the progress of the Turkish Corner currently being established at the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library, as well as the Turkish Language Classroom at the University's Language Center, both of which are expected to serve as hubs for Turkish language and cultural learning.
The TİKA delegation was warmly received by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Abdurrozaki, M.Si., and the team who has initiated the strategic partnership between UIN Sunan Kalijaga and TİKA. The visit and collaboration were also facilitated by the University's International Office (CDCIA) , which continues to coordinate and strengthen the University's international partnerships. Also present at the meeting was the Head of the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library, Dr. Tafrikhuddin, S.Ag., M.Pd., who expressed the library's commitment to supporting the integration of the Turkish Corner into the University's academic and literacy services.
The visit marked an important follow-up to the cooperation agreement between UIN Sunan Kalijaga and TİKA, which seeks to support the University's internationalization agenda through the development of academic and cultural facilities. Once completed, the Turkish Corner will function as a center for information, language learning, cultural exchange, academic discussion, and collaborative research between Indonesia and Türkiye.
In his remarks, Prof. Abdurrozaki expressed his sincere appreciation for TİKA's continued support of the University's international development. "We deeply appreciate TİKA's valuable support for UIN Sunan Kalijaga. The Turkish Corner represents much more than a physical facility, it symbolizes the enduring friendship between Indonesia and Türkiye. We hope this space will become a vibrant platform where students, academics, and the wider community can engage in language learning, cultural exchange, academic dialogue, and collaborative research," he said. He further emphasized that the establishment of the Turkish Corner would strengthen UIN Sunan Kalijaga's position as a globally engaged university while fostering impactful international partnerships in higher education.
Representing TİKA, Mr. Gökhan KESSER, Expert for the Asia-Pacific Desk, expressed his appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the University. He noted that UIN Sunan Kalijaga holds a significant place in TİKA's cooperation initiatives in Indonesia, becoming the agency's second institutional partner after Jakarta's Istiqlal Mosque.
Through the establishment of the Turkish Corner at the University Library and the Turkish Language Classroom at the Language Center, TİKA hopes to further strengthen the long-standing friendship between Indonesia and Türkiye, particularly in the fields of higher education, human resource development, and cultural diplomacy. Established in 1992, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) is the Republic of Türkiye's official development cooperation agency. Operating in more than 170 countries, TİKA has implemented thousands of projects in education, healthcare, cultural heritage preservation, social infrastructure development, and humanitarian assistance, contributing significantly to international development and intercultural understanding.
For UIN Sunan Kalijaga, this collaboration represents an important milestone in the University's internationalization strategy, aimed at expanding global partnerships, enhancing academic quality, and strengthening academic diplomacy.
