Yogyakarta, 22th April 2026 — UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta once again welcomed an international delegation from Australian Catholic University (ACU). The event, held on the second floor of the PAU Building, began at 1:30 p.m. and served as a forum for strategic discussions at strengthening global academic and research cooperation. The event was attended by many faculty members from both UIN Sunan Kalijaga and Australian Catholic University.

The event was opened by Dr. Witriani, M.Hum, Head of CDCIA (Center for Developing Cooperation and International Affairs). In her remarks, she extended a warm welcome to the ACU delegation and emphasized the importance of international collaboration as a concrete step toward improving the quality of higher education and expanding global networks.

Next, the Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Prof. Noorhaidi, S.Ag., M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D., briefly but thoroughly introduced UIN Sunan Kalijaga. He noted that UIN Sunan Kalijaga is ranked among the Top 37 globally in Theology, Divinity, and Religious Studies by the QS World University Rankings and is also recognized as Top 10 worldwide (ranked 7th) in Religious Studies by the SCImago Institutions Rankings. And UIN Sunan Kalijaga is an inclusive campus that also accepts students of religions other than Islam and students with disabilities. Prof. Noorhaidi expressed his hope for cooperation between the two institutions. He also stated that UIN is ready to welcome and facilitate ACU if they wish to conduct research here.

The opening remarks on behalf of ACU were delivered by Professor Zlatko Skrbis, who expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome from UIN Sunan Kalijaga. He emphasized ACU’s readiness to build sustainable collaborations, particularly in the fields of education, research, and innovation. During the presentation session, the ACU delegation introduced the institution’s profile as a Catholic university ranked among the world’s Top 10 by Times Higher Education. ACU is also ranked among the Top 100 Young Universities globally and boasts a strong research reputation, with 100% of its research rated “world-class or above” by the Australian Research Council.

Furthermore, ACU introduced its academic structure, which consists of four main faculties: Health Sciences, Education and Arts, Law and Business, and Theology and Philosophy. Each faculty has a focus on leading-edge research, such as mental health, sports and health sciences, inclusive education, child protection, and issues of ethics, law, and human rights.

Through this visit, the two institutions have opened up opportunities for concrete collaboration, such as joint research, student and faculty exchanges, and the development of joint academic programs. This meeting represents a strategic step toward strengthening UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta’s position as a university that is actively engaged in global networks and contributes to addressing global challenges through education and research.
